    Funniest Person In Austin

Here it is again – the annual competition that brings all the ATX funny to one stage, at least sequentially, in order to determine who's gonna wear the cape and crown. Oh! Who's gonna be the winnah? Who's gonna be the champeen? First, there's about a month of prelims, where the chaff is separated from the wheat. Then, the semifinals, where the wheat is culled until only the best parts remain. And then, the finals, the ultimate night, where the grains with brains are nothing like corny and they represent, pretty much, the pinnacle of contemporary humor in this town. Make your reservations for that last night now, while you still can – but check out some of the early action, too: You'll be surprised how funny a bunch of eventual losers can be.
    March 31-May 13. $6 and up.

    Underground Comedy

This basement venue is dedicated to "bringing the best in alternative comedy with shows seven nights a week." For instance: Monday starts things off with that sprightly revue of optimism called Fuck This Week, there's Rob Gagnon's unpredictable Sandbox on Tuesdays, the all-female comedy showcase called Garage on Wednesdays, check out the comedy enlightenment of Sacred Words this Thursday, and don't miss the inarguable power of Sure Thing hosted by Duncan Carson and Brendan K. O’Grady that happens every Friday night. Also, Saturday's Funny Ladies of Wrestling will likely put you in a spinning toe hold, and – check that website for more, yo!

You're looking for … what? OPEN MICS?

There's a lot of them in Austin, brothers and sisters. Sometimes there's as many as 25 in one week. And comedian Joe Faina went to all of them a while back – find out what he found out, right here.
