    50 First Jokes: Austin

Here's the show, hosted by Lisa Friedrich and Ralphie Hardesty, in which 50 Austin comics tell their first joke of the new year. Each comic has one minute to tell their joke – and you have more than an hour of clever entertainment before the rest of 2019 hits us like a shit avalanche. What did Dr. Emilio Lizardo say? "Laugh-a while you can, monkey boy!"
    Wed., Jan. 2. $10 ($8, in advance).

New Year's Big Bash and more!

There's a stage upstairs, there's a stage downstairs, there's coffee all over the place and all sorts of shows and classes here. This Thursday, the Scroogetastic Dickensian improv hit Bah Humbug! returns, followed by that Free Fringe. Friday's got Don't Interrupt Me starring Physics Curse, and the all-star Big Bash shindig, and a Threefer of troupes finishing the night. And, on Saturday night, after the improvised Holiday Party Disaster, it's Mischief Managed – which surely hasn't anything to do with Hogwarts or even, ah, Pigfarts (on Mars), right? – and then, after you see It's a Wonderful Blank, Uncle Billy, you old fool, don't miss the competitive improv donnybrook of Maestro! And on Sunday, there's the annual Same Year's Eve once again, where the stage is packed to bursting with Austin's improv crowd, and of course there's the New Year's Eve Improv Extravaganza on Monday (two shows!) that's got everything you need to make sure 2018 doesn't let the door hit its ass on the way out. And, wait, wait, what's this about The Available Cupholders on … Wednesday? OMG!

    Jan. 2-5. Wed.-Thu., 8pm; Fri.-Sat., 7:30 & 10pm. $12-23.
