Future Traditions Festival: Concert
This multimedia festival explores digital technology as a collaborative tool for bringing traditional Latin American music and dance into the 21st century, creating new discourse between technology, experimentation, and tradition while working toward cultural equity. Once There Were Six Seasons
Glass Half Full Theatre's award-winning production returns as a three-part interactive experience that invites audiences to travel the globe and explore humankind’s impact on climate change: Step onstage with the puppeteers to observe ecosystems from the Americas, Africa, India, Asia, and the Arctic and watch as the tiny humans and animals struggle against drought, flood, heat, and violent storms. Davis Gallery: Noisy Lullaby
This solo exhibit featuring new work by Philip Durst might resemble the quilts of your childhood, but the artist's vibrant use of multicolored candy wrappers and cardboard soda boxes aren't conducive to a good night's sleep. In fact, we tried Googling "collage + stunning" a few times, and it was Dursts all the way down, radiating patterns of playfulness and optimism.Through May 25 -

Dimension Gallery: Unusual Kinships
The artist Magdalena Jarkowiec knows about unusual kinships, all right. The kinship of fabric to structure, for instance, as evidenced in her oddly humanoid soft sculptures – the enormous one that's long been towering over Dimension Gallery's Paved Garden, for one; and the other figurative creations, somewhat smaller, that have enhanced live performances in this town. And now Jarkowiec's got her first solo show of such sculptures in Austin, featuring a bright array of human/object hybrid forms, dollhouselike installations, hanging portraits of lovers and friends … and all of it rich with her characteristic humor and invention. This is the first Reynolds Gallery show for both of these artists, and we were all like, "Hey, Natalie Frank! With a Grimm exhibition just in time for Ballet Austin's Grimm Tales based on her fantastic works!" and we barely even made note of Mr. Marsh's part of this two-person display … until we saw some stunning images showing the gorgeous and fairly chthonic "Cauldrons and Crucibles" work the man does with ceramics small and large – and then we made damned good and sure our schedule was clear for an even longer visit to this excellent Downtown venue.Through June 8 -

Here is ScriptWorks' 21st annual ten-minute play showcase, this year serving up an array of mini-dramas about mentally enhanced robots, automatons, household appliances, and humans. Those commedia dell'arte capermongers of Austin's La Fenice, who you may recall brought us that hilarious Cthulhu Beach Party send-up, return with their latest entertainment. This one features "a body, an android, a judge, and a race for redemption." But … but that sounds serious. Have our favorite old-school clowns at long last ditched frivolity for more somber effect? Fear not! As related on their own Facebook post, "We have finished writing the scenario and it’s bleak AF. Now to figure out how to fill it with jokes." Excellent.
