  • Laundry & Bourbon with Lonestar

Laundry and Bourbon with Lonestar, two companion one act plays set in backyards of a small Texas town. Three ladies come together to talk about their life's ups and downs. Lonestar follows the life of three small town boys and the events that have shaped them. Both shows give us highs & lows with humor spread around, for good measure.

    Out of Bounds Comedy Festival

Look, it's not all about the improv, OK? That is to say, yes, it's hella about improv, the whole looooong weekend is lousy with improv – with amazing troupes from all over the country attending and performing – but there's also a sweet array of sketch comedy and stand-up comedy and just the naturally occurring comedy that ensues as hundreds and hundreds of professionals and fans converge on the ATX for the seven days of this annual festival of staged shenanigans. Shows? Well, yes! These guys from NYC, for one. And, as M. Brianna Stallings reports, Austin's own FUCK THIS WEEK. And we've got a whole list of recommendations right here for you. But workshops and classes, too – and more afterparties than you can shake a Big Book at. Note: The epicenter of this event is the Hideout, but it's also happening in venues all over the city. And you can buy tickets to individual shows, sure, but all the smart people are getting badges.
    Aug. 28-Sept. 3. $10-99.

    Brew & Brew: Naturally Funny

Justin Hicks hosts this night of comedy to benefit Austin Parks Foundation, and if laughter can benefit anything, then the APF is gonna be in clover for decades – because the lineup here is Elizabeth Spears, Carina Magyar, Chris Cubas, Enzo Priesnitz, and Derek Phelps. Big comedy firepower among the coffee and the cold ones!
    Tue., Aug. 28, 8pm. $10 ($7, in advance).

    Davis Gallery: Reflector

This is something to see, all right, as the gallery walls are filled with work by artists tasked with capturing either their whole self or an aspect of self. And most of the artists have depicted themselves via abstractions and symbolic representations. Note that Randall Reid, Jan Heaton, John Sager, Chun Hui Pak, and Caprice Pierucci are only some of the artists represented in this group show, and we reckon you'll be right there with us, viewing the array of wonders on display.
