Free Lunch ATX, a local organization dedicated to providing meal support to Austin’s Camp Esperanza homeless community, is hosting 12 Days of Free Lunch, a citywide fundraising initiative, hoping to raise $12,000 by partnering with more than a dozen local culinary hotspots – including Joanne's Fine Foods (Fri., Dec. 1), Burn Slow (Sat., Dec. 2), Bufalina (Sun., Dec. 3), Black Star Coop (Mon., Dec. 4), Allday Pizza (Tue., Dec. 5), LeRoy and Lewis Barbecue (Wed., Dec. 6), Tweedy’s (Thu., Dec. 7), Sugar Mama’s (Fri., Dec. 8), Lolo's (Sat., Dec. 9), Rockstar Bagels (Sun., Dec. 10), Justine’s (Mon., Dec. 11), Lou's Barton Springs (Tue., Dec. 12), and more – to help combat food insecurity in Austin. -

Austin Unconducted x Daniel Fears
"Austin Unconducted is a democratic orchestra formed in 2022 by a group of young professional musicians with a desire to present classical music in a way that is relatable, fresh, and fun. Rather than working with a conductor, our 18 string musicians collaborate and work with local artists to design and perform concerts that truly reflect the voice and energy of the city of Austin." Past, present, and future fuse for a fresh take on tradition as nonprofit Austin Unconducted partners with burgeoning local singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Fears. Two nights of sound look to bridge the gap between modern R&B and classical – a genre that the cooperative orchestra, founded in 2021 by a group of friends, aims to rethink through extensive collaboration with contemporary musicians. "When Aiden first meets Jack, it’s through the transactional world of gay male hookup apps – Aiden’s first exploration since transitioning. But as the two spend more time together, things get complicated - they must navigate their grief, recovery, and trauma, and find out if they can hold one another’s human messiness." This is the world premiere of a new musical, commissioned by Ground Floor Theatre, with book by Lane Michael Stanley, music and lyrics by Tova Katz, and starring Justin P. Lopez and Laura Leo Kelly. On the dawn of sleep well.’s sophomore full-length, It’s Getting Brighter (out Dec. 8), the quintet steals the Mohawk indoor stage to introduce a new era. Striding away from the playful bedroom-pop of 2019 debut Pictures of Dogs, the San Antonio natives’ lead singles opt for swaying head bobs over bouncy hip bumps. “No Bottle” gives the lush atmosphere explored on 2020 EP Graduation Day a darker edge, twirling romantic guitar tickles and lullaby keys into sweeping shoegaze.
