sxswf: We All Scream for Pee Wee!

"He looks really happy," said a friend as we joined the mob waiting to receive Good Humor bars from Mr. Pee Wee Herman himself. Umm, we know he is, but what are you?

It's true: Greeting his devoted public at Eighth and Congress after the premiere of HBO special The Pee Wee Herman Show on Broadway at the State Theater on Saturday, the eternal imp was relaxed, gracious, and completely in his element.

Fans returned the love full-force, giving up the standing O when Herman, or, kind of, Pee Wee creator Paul Reubens dressed as Herman, strolled out to intro the film. With its winning, updated take on the original Pee Wee Broadway show and television's Pee Wee's Playhouse, the movie deserves the accolades; it's deep fun, no matter how brightly your torch burned during his absence.
