Important Home Games for the Aztex This Weekend
The latest news on the Aztex and the Copa Aztex

Both Austin Aztex squads have key home games this weekend: The First Division team hosts the Portland Timbers Saturday night, sorely needing a win to get back into the playoff chase; a split on the road last weekend (1-0 over Cleveland for their first road win of the year, followed by a sluggish 4-1 loss at Rochester) left them two points out of seventh place. For Hispanic Heritage Night, the Aztex are offering a special promotion: four tickets, plus four tacos and four drinks, all for just $40. Saturday, July 11, 7:30pm at Nelson Field, 7400 Berkman, just north of Highway 290.
Meanwhile, a 4-0 loss to Laredo Friday in San Marcos (“our worst performance of the year,” said coach Wolfgang Suhnholz) left the Aztex U-23s tied for second in the PDL Mid South, with three games to go, and the top three making the playoffs. The Azteclets host the last-place Houston Leones this Friday, July 10, 7:30pm at Dragon Stadium in Round Rock.
A brief look ahead: Tickets are still available for the Copa Aztex game between Mexico’s Cruz Azul and Tigres – 7pm Saturday, July 18 at UT’s Mike A. Myers Stadium. See www.austinaztex.com/copaaztex for more info.
