Regular-season play begins October 2

It was announced today by the American Hockey League's President and CEO David Andrews that the Texas Stars will be playing in the Western Conference's West Division for the 2009-10 campaign. Regular-season play will begin October 2, which is not a day too soon for local puckheads. God bless the Ice Bats, but the level of play that fans will witness at the Stars' new arena in Cedar Park will be miles ahead of the much-lower-level Bats. Here's how the Stars' division looks for the AHL's 2009-10 season with NHL affiliates in parentheses. There are two conferences with two divisions each in the AHL.

Western Conference
West Division
Texas Stars (DAL)
Houston Aeros (MIN)
Milwaukee Admirals (NSH)
Peoria Rivermen (STL)
Rockford IceHogs (CHI)
San Antonio Rampage (PHX)
Chicago Wolves (ATL)
