The Austin Turfcats of the Southern Indoor Football League held a big shindig for the media on Thursday at the Four Season's Hotel where they introduced the coaching staff, discussed ticket prices, and announced two player signings.
Corry Perez will play defensive back for the Turfcats. He played wide receiver for Blinn Junior College in Brenham and had this to say at the presser, “This is the most exciting feeling in the world to play at home. I just thank God everyday for this opportunity.” Darrick Wallace out of Grambling State was also signed by the Turfcats and said, “I feel pretty good going into this season. Hopefully, we get an experienced quarterback who can catch on quick to indoor football."
Speaking of players, the Turfcats will be holding tryouts on Saturday, January 24 at Hutto High School. Entry forms will soon be posted on www.turfcats.com.
As far as ticket prices go, Vice President/General Manager Ron Oswalt explained, “We have season tickets for a family of four available at $99. That breaks down to $4.12 per ticket. How many families can go out to a football game for that much?” Playing in the Travis County Expo Center will certainly help in keeping costs down (as opposed to the Erwin Center) and was a more-than-adequate venue for the Ice Bats when they called it home.
