Horns Defeat Sooners 4-0, and More Soccer News

The Longhorns pick up a win and a tie, 'Maradona by Kusturica' premiere, and more

The UT Longhorns destroyed OU Friday night, 4-0, then fought to a scoreless draw with No. 18 Oklahoma State on Sunday. The Horns now stand 12th in the country at 10-2-3 but sixth in the Big 12 at 3-2-2, heading into the final road trip of the season, this weekend at Kansas and No. 20 Missouri.

It was kind of an Austin Aztex reunion Sunday, as Incarnate Word’s Aztex defender Jamie Scope scored the game’s only goal, beating the Aztex-weighted St. Edward’s men (Jorge Vega, Kevin Klaus, Ezzie Lewis), dropping the Hilltoppers to No. 14 nationally but still well-placed for an NCAA bid. They host the No. 1 team in the country, Midwestern State, at 4pm Friday, Oct. 24, at the SEU soccer field.

The St. Ed’s women moved to 8-2-1 for the season and a virtual tie for the Heartland Conference lead with a pair of wins on the weekend. They finish their home season at 1pm Friday, Oct. 24, against Newman.

Movie premiere: Maradona by Kusturica, a documentary on the Argentinean footballer, directed by award-winning Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturica. It’s part of Friday Late Nights at Yellow Bike and Treasure City Thrift: bike repair, late-night thrift shopping, and free movies. 9pm Friday, Oct. 24, 1720 E. 12th. www.treasurecitythrift.org.
