High School Arena Pigskin Action

Looking for a good way to kill a Saturday? Howsabout the second annual Lone Star Arena Football Classic. Saturday, February 9, the Erwin Center plays host to Central Texas high school all-star seniors. The catch: It’s arena football. All of it, the padded walls, the full-field bombs, and two rosters of 18-year-old guys kicking the livin’ piss outta each other.

For the second year in a row, the North squad will be coached by Westwood High School head football coach Anthony Wood, who – for those playing at home – took the W in the inaugural game last year. Looking to knock Wood down a peg*, Seguin High School head football coach Jim Carson will pace the other sideline (isn't Jim Carson the name of one of the guys in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly).

* Sorry about that one.

The classic is presented by the Austin Wranglers Foundation, with proceeds from the game going to help children from Central Texas military families participate in organized sports. Cool, huh?
