The Wastelands of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga are basically Austin. It's absurdly hot, increasingly afflicted by climate change, and everyone's obsessed with guns and cars. And for one afternoon, Austin also had its own raiding party of War Boys.
The call to arms went out: We were summoned, not to Valhalla, but to the Baker Center to be made up as Immortan Joe's disposal foot soldiers. We then rode into battle – well, the parking lot of the Bullock Texas State History Museum – aboard the Badiallc (the apocalypse-ready converted 1960 Cadillac DeVille, complete with horns, leather, and a DJ booth) for a screening of the fifth installment in the Mad Max film series.
Spot myself, Best of Austin-nominated film critic and co-host of Double Toasted Korey Coleman, editor and creative director of Electric Owl Creative Greg MacLennan, Mutant co-founder Mo Shafeek, Fangoria creative director Jason Kauzlarich, and Fons PR co-founder Ryan Fons under the signature white war paint of the War Boys.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is in theatres now: Read our review and get showtimes here. And don't worry, you're not likely to have shirtless white-painted film critics at your screening.
