Austin's iteration of award season is officially on the calendar, as the Austin Film Critics Association has announced its short lists for its 2023 awards - including the five nominees for the Austin Film Award, given to a film directed by Austin residents.
Leading the field with an incredible 12 nominations, including a shared Best Director nod for Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert (aka Daniels), is the mind-bending dimension-hopping delight of Everything Everywhere All at Once. That's followed by Irish tragicomedy The Banshees of Inisherin with eight, including a duo of nominations for best supporting actor for both Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan.
The final winners will be announced on Jan. 10, including the full list of the AFCA's top 10 films of 2022.
