Austin Film Society Opens AFS Grant

By Richard Whittaker, April 12, 2021, 5:00pm, Picture in Picture

The Austin Film Society Grants have been lifechanging for Texas filmmakers since they were founded in 1996 as the Texas Filmmakers Production Fund. Now AFS has opened up for applications for this years grants for feature films in development and in production.

With over $2 million in cash grants and $340,000 in-kind goods and services to over 400 Texas filmmakers over the last quarter century, including Lone Star cinema luminaries like Annie Silverstein (Bull), David Lowery (St. Nick), Kat Candler (Hellion, the Zellner Brothers (Kid-Thing), Andrew Bujalski (Results), Yen Tan (Pit Stop), Keith Maitland (Tower), and many more. AFS CEO Rebecca Campbell explained that, now more than ever, AFS is "focused on changing the industry and our communities by supporting a diverse group of regional filmmakers to tell their own stories, and by making Texas a place where filmmakers can reside for their entire careers.”

AFS is now accepting applications for production and development grants for narrative and documentary features, defined as films over 40 minutes (grants for shorts 40 minutes and under will be accepted starting in July through to Sept. 10). Succesful feature recipients will be announced in September.
