Ever watched Empire Records and got to the Save the Empire party at the end, where everyone gathers together to save their favorite record store, and thought to yourself, "I wish I could be part of something like that?" Today's your chance, as Vulcan Video holds an all-day party to help keep the doors open.
As we reported last month in our One in a Crowd column, the local video rental store has hit rough financial times, and has started raising donation to cover essential operating costs and give them the funds they need to ensure a future for this invaluable movie resource.
The team have already raised $25,885 towards their $35,000 goal. So today, as a thank you and continued part of that push, the team at Vulcan is holding a special day party, with free beer, giveaways, costume contest (anyone who comes as a Ghostbuster automatically gets a free Vulcan t-shirt and a raffle ticket), and (sssssh) a Rare Super Secret Trash Action VHS Double Feature. General manager Jacob Knight tweeted last night that they're definitely not screening Predator (he added, "The movies we’re showing are 1000% more insane than Predator).
So head over to Vulcan Video at 4477 Russell Drive from noon onwards today, celebrate the store - and maybe even rent a movie. And even if you can't make it today, you can contribute via their GoFundMe page.
