First Trailer for Austin Conspiracy Comedy Duncan

By Richard Whittaker, February 1, 2019, 2:00pm, Picture in Picture

What's Austin without a good, crazy conspiracy theory? Now the tin foil hat brigade gets the spoofing they richly deserve with upcoming satire Duncan, and we've got the first look at the first trailer right here.

It's the feature debut of director John Valley, who has previously directed videos for a coterie of Austin bands including Whiskey Shivers, A Giant Dog, and Sweet Spirit (check them out on his Vimeo page).

Back in September we featured Valley's movie in our One in a Crowd column about local films looking for crowdfunding support. Here's what we wrote about it:

Duncan (is) a satirical comedy about fake news. Inspired by the Pizzagate hoax, the feature tells the story of an aspiring documentarian (Alexandria Payne) who hires the militia-minded Duncan (Tinus Seaux) as her tactician as they go to uncover endangered children at an Austin pizza parlor. Their misadventure, and a subsequent manhunt, call up questions about tribalism, identity politics, and fearmongering in the modern age – especially given that the protagonist is a follower of a famous local conspiracy peddler.

Valley shot the film last year, and now he's sent us the first look with this brand new trailer for his bloody black comedy, spoofing gun nuttery, lizard overlords, and the kind of crazies that fall for this media madness.

We'll be keeping our deep state surveil ... we mean eye on this project, and we'll debrief you when there's more news.
