Dog Days at the Alamo

Special Isle of Dogs screenings for National Dog Day

Dogs are like people, but better. We already know this. But humans don't always treat their canine pals so well, so this August 26, in celebration of National Dog Day, the Alamo Drafthouse is bringing back Wes Anderson's Isle of Dogs for a special night of fundraising screenings for the ASPCA.

The nationwide wag-a-thon of course makes an Austin appearance with a screening at the Alamo South Lamar at 7pm on Aug. 26. The event will include not only the film, but a specially recorded Q&A between Anderson and Bob Balaban, the voice of King, and 10% of all ticket sales go straight to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

“We’re pleased to partner with Alamo Drafthouse on this National Dog Day project that celebrates the special bond between people and animals,” said ASPCA Cause Partnerships Senior Director Christina Wyman. “All animals deserve strong voices to represent them, whether that voice comes from famous actors in a movie or average people committed to animal welfare in the real world.”

If that's not reason enough to attend the screenings (and who doesn't love dogs? Seriously. Point them out. No treats for them) the Drafthouse is also bringing back drink specials from the original run – including the dreaded and delicious Trash Island Shake – while one lucky attendee at every screening will win a set of miniature figures of the film's dogs and their human pal Atari.
