AFS Hosts Advance Screening of Pete's Dragon

By Josh Kupecki, June 27, 2016, 1:10pm, Picture in Picture

Would you like to see a sneak peek at Disney's upcoming reboot of Pete's Dragon? Well, here's your chance, as the Austin Film Society is hosting an advance screening on Sunday, July 31, at the Paramount.

If you've somehow missed it, Pete's Dragon is a reimagining of the 1977 film which mixed animation and live action to tell the story of Pete and his pet dragon, Elliott. This new film trades animation for CGI, and eschews the musical numbers from the original. The film is directed by Texas-based David Lowery (Ain't Them Bodies Saints), who has been supported by AFS grants for his past work. Lowery will be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A.

The event is also a benefit for AFS, with ticket sales going to Artist Services programs and the AFS Grant, which aids emerging Texas filmmakers with much needed funding. Tickets will first be available to AFS members Tuesday, June 28, at 9am, and then open to the general public on Thursday, June 30, at 9am. Head on over to www.austinfilm.org to get your AFS membership and to purchase tickets. This special advance screening happens Sunday, July 31, 1pm, at the Paramount. In the meantime, check the latest trailer below.
