In a move surprising absolutely no one, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has nominated Austin-based animator Don Herzfeldt's film, “World of Tomorrow,” for an Oscar in the Best Short (Animated) category.
The film has been an accolade magnet since it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last January, where it won the Grand Jury Prize for Short Film. This is the second time Herzfeldt has been nominated for an Oscar: His short “Rejected,” was nominated in the same category in 2000. The Chronicle chatted with Hertzfeldt about “World of Tomorrow” (see “Don Hertzfeldt's Digital Divide,” April 10, 2015), and the film is available via Vimeo on Hertzfeldt's website, www.bitterfilms.com. The Academy Awards air Sunday, Feb. 28. See the full list of nominees here.
