One in a Crowd: What's Kind About the Dark

By Richard Whittaker, October 30, 2014, 5:54pm, Picture in Picture

With Halloween's shadow looming over us, what time could be more perfect for turning our flickering candle to illuminate a horror film looking for your soul gold.

What's Kind About the Dark is the debut feature from Austin-based director Colin Bryan, but it's not his first attempt to crowdfund a project. Back in 2011, we featured his Kickstarter campaign for his graphic novel 86 Plots, a sinister tale of betrayal in grave robbery. That work is almost complete, and now he's moving into the film realm. Here's the quick synopsis from the filmmakers.

Miriam lives alone in the woods working as a homicide investigator. One night a stranger invades her home offering to help her on an important cold case. As the investigation unfolds, Miriam realizes that darkness is his true motive. Can she solve the murder before the dawn, and at what cost?

Bryan has already made a teaser trailer/sizzle reel for his sealed house shocker, showing the first glimpses of the struggle, both physical and cerebral, between Miriam and the mysterious stranger.

So now he just needs to actually make the film, and he's turning to crowdfunding to help him raise the $75,000 needed to shoot the film. Shooting is scheduled for early 2015 in South Texas. He already has his script and cast in place, so the money will go straight towards production costs.

You can contribute via his Indiegogo page, including incentives such as original sketches by 86 Plots artist Kelsey Shannon. You can also find out more information about the project at www.calaverasmuertos.com, or follow the production on Twitter @kindaboutdark.
