Help Fight MS With Pee-wee

By Monica Riese, July 8, 2013, 3:25pm, Picture in Picture

"Look out, Mister Potato Head!"

Every bicycling Texan worth his weight in brisket should know about two things: First, there's 1985 classic Pee-wee's Big Adventure, in which protagonist Pee-wee Herman tools around on his bright red bike, inspires Get-up Kids songs, and learns the secret of the Alamo basement. But there's also the annual MS 150, the fundraiser ride from Houston to Austin every spring that raises money for the MS Foundation for its research on multiple sclerosis.

And later this week, the Alamo Drafthouse's Rolling Roadshow will bring both of those things together in one feel-good event at the French Legation museum.

So even if you're not up for joining 20,000 of your closest pals on two wheels in the spring, you can help contribute to the cause with ticket sales to this event. Micklethwait Craft Meats and Dia de las Paletas will be on site selling food, in case you needed any further incentive.

Maybe you, like Pee-wee, figure you "don't need anybody" and can get there on your own, but bikers can meet at Mellow Johnny's (400 Nueces) at 7pm to join in the group ride to the screening.

Either way, it's bound to be an adventure.

The Rolling Roadshow presents Pee-wee's Big Adventure on Friday, July 12, at the French Legation Museum (802 San Marcos St.). Doors open at 7pm, and ticket proceeds ($7 each, available now on the Drafthouse website) benefit the MS Foundation.
