Horizon: An Alternative to the Big E3 Presentations

By James Renovitch, May 20, 2013, 2:55pm, Picture in Picture

Do the usual E3 gaming presentations leave you cold? Local gaming-culture website Venus Patrol is collaborating on an alternative. It's called Horizon and, while no details have been released, we imagine that a website with "We are video game romantics" as its unofficial slogan will bring games with a personal touch to the national spotlight.

E3 in Los Angeles is king of the gaming expos, and it's largely a vehicle for the latest trailers and gameplay from massive releases. The big players host showcases complete with celebrity guests, massive screens, probably a few lasers, and enough scrutiny from the media to rival the State of the Union address. With both Sony and Microsoft releasing new consoles this holiday season, this year's E3 will be lousy with immaculately rendered explosions and creepily realistic body parts (attached and otherwise).

Horizon is a collaboration between Venus Patrol and MOCAtv, the online video channel for the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles where the event will be held. According to the event's website, Horizon will present "a lineup of beautiful games ... from studios both small and large." More details about the event on June 13 will be released in the coming weeks.
