Time to Re-Learn Your 'ABCs'

Back for an extra lesson: Tim League to produce a sequel to 2012 horror anthology "The ABCs of Death."

If you've seen the Drafthouse Films/Magnet co-production The ABCs of Death, you'll know that the horror anthology has the bloody fingerprints of a whole host of Fantastic Fest and SXSW alumni on it. Now Magnet has announced a sequel, produced by Alamo Drafthouse boss Tim League, and yet again they're picking up the fests' genre best.

The original ABCs made its US debut at Fantastic Fest 2012, with a director roster that read like the FF yearbook. It was a pretty simple format: 26 director teams get a letter of the alphabet each, and have around two minutes of screen time to be inspired to death. Magnet lead off their big announcement on Tuesday with word that animator extraordinaire Bill Plympton will be part of the sequel's depraved crew, but the list of familiar names gets longer. Announced so far are:

– Jen and Sylvia Soska, who ripped up the house and became scene favorites last year at Fantastic Fest with the phenomenal low-budget success of body mod horror American Mary (read our interview with the Twisted Twins here.) A very excited Sylvia announced on Facebook this morning, "It's on." She continued, "We loved the first film and are very honored to be a part of the next instalment. I don't want to sound crazy or anything, but I have been thinking of something fucking insane for our letter."

– Lithuania’s Kristina Buozyte and Bruno Samper whose film Vanishing Waves took a host of awards at the festival in 2012, including Fantastic Features, and is due to be released through Artsploitation.

– Marcus Dunstan, who debuted his shocker sequel The Collection at FF2012 (see our review here and our interview with Dunstan here.)

– Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado, who co-created Israel's first horror film, Rabies, and have been getting rave reviews for their follow-up, Big Bad Wolf, which also just got picked up by Magnet (read our interview with the pair from during FF 2011.) Keshales took to Facebook this morning to say, "Wow-ee part Deux!"

– SXSW 2013 panelist Vincenzo Natali (Cube, Splice who also brought his new supernatural tale Haunter to the festival.

– E.L. Katz, whose latest film Cheap Thrills got picked up by Drafthouse Films after a stunning run at SXSW 2013.

– Jerome Sable, whose short "The Legend of Beaver Dam" screened at FF 2010.

– Robert Morgan, the animator behind last year's FF bizarre stop motion short "Bobby Yeah."

– Rodney Ascher, FF 2012 award winning director and creator of Kubrick conspiracy doc/subtextual analysis Room 237.

– Dennison Ramalho, whose astonishing crime short Ninjas was a true show stopper at FF 2010. Do yourself and watch the whole thing on Vimeo now.

– Multiple threat Larry Fessenden, who may have set the record for appearances in FF and SXSW genre films (Trigger Man, Stake Land, Silver Bullets, You're Next.)

– Alex de la Iglesia (The Last Circus, FF 2010.)

– Sion Sono (Cold Fish, FF 2010.)

– Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (Livid, FF 2011)

Add on to that animation legend Plympton, Filipino auteur Erik Matti, and the man behind Nigeria's "Nollywood" exploitation scene, Lancelot Imasuen.

The project will be produced by Alamo head honcho League and his ABCs compadre Ant Timpson, while Twitch.com founder Todd Brown, Mitch Davis, Ted Geoghegan, and Marc Walkow will serve as associate producers.
