MASS Gallery Opens 'Public Access'

It's right there in the name. Fuse.

The Fusebox Festival is all about fusion. Last week, Arts Editor Robert Faires described it as a "showcase of cross-disciplinary and experimental art … at unlikely intersections of form or meaning or with enough force to make something new." And, well, this is definitely something new.

Starting tomorrow (Friday, April 19) and running through May 4, MASS Gallery will transform its white-walled space into a public-access television studio.

Complete with all your standard public-access TV sets – your kitchen, your living room, your talk show, etc. – MASS will host "open-ended performances by dozens of [local] individual and collective artists, musicians, comedians and actors; live events on the opening night; and videos, props, costumes and sets on view during the run of the show."

It brings into focus everyone's differing definitions of the phrase "public access" – from Bob Ross to Julia Child – while maintaining the low barriers to entry so integral to the form. Stop by and become part of the most important piece: the audience.
