IndieCade Annex presents: LOVE!
Party and play with ATX's new house of indie gaming
By James Renovitch, 11:30AM, Thu. Feb. 7, 2013
You're probably not going to the IndieCade Festival in New York, but you can get a little taste here at the premiere of IndieCade Annex. The theme is love, but unlike the upcoming greeting-card-fueled holiday, the Annex's relationships will be more platonic. Or should I say "play"tonic? Nope, I shouldn't have said it.
There aren't many chances to play games on a big screen in an outdoor setting, but this Friday, Feb. 8, from 8pm until midnight at 1310 Broadmoor is one of them. There's nothing like playing in front of a crowd of people yelling at you (hopefully words of encouragement what with the Love theme and all). There will also be a multiplayer lounge where you can catch-up on classics and other gamer faves. Word is they will have Samurai Gunn, which made quite a splash at the Fantastic Arcade last year.
The spotlight games include a new one from Bennett Foddy (creator of the cult classic QWOP) called Get On Top and plays like a mix of sumo wrestling and extremely awkward intercourse. In other words, super fun. In fact you can play Get On Top online right now. The perfectly named Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime from Asteroid Base headlines the evening featuring a cooperative survival style of play in a Day-Glo universe.
The Indiecade Annex will take place every month and is free and open to the public. It also just happens to take place the day after Juegos Rancheros meet ups which are Austin's other chance to play cool indie games (among other things). You should go to that too. It's tonight at 7pm at the North Door (formerly the ND and before that 501 Studios).
Here's to more parties with video games; my dreams are being realized.
