Want to see Peter Jackson's return to Middle-earth in the speedy 48-frames-per-second rate that the director filmed it in – but don't know where to find that version in Austin? The response from viewers and critics to Jackson's latest technological innovation has been mixed so far. But how can you weigh in when you're not even sure where to find it?
Warner Bros. and the exhibitors haven't done a great job of making the information about the 48 fps screens vs. the standard 24 fps screens readily available. The Austin Chronicle has obtained the list to share with our readers of the local venues showing The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in digital, 3-D, and 48 fps.
Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar
Alamo Drafthouse Slaughter Lane
Galaxy Moviehouse & Eatery
Cinemark Tinseltown North
Regal Gateway 16 (Note that if you visit this baby IMAX theatre and the sound at first seems funky, get your money back right away because it won't get better. The press screening here a couple nights ago was projected with malfunctioning audio.)
