This Week's Waste of Time
Now that you've run yourself ragged with the one-button masher that was last week's free internet game, I'm going to keep things simple for you. This week's waste of time is Don't Look Back. Maybe I'm crazy, but the game plays like a supernatural CW drama for the Atari 2800: Spooky, romantic, simple, and 8-bit.

This Week's Waste of Time
Now that our blogs look all fancified and special with bells and whistles in all the right places I figured it would be a good time to feature a free online game that strips the gaming experience down to nothing but playability, excitement, and, ultimately, addiction. This week's "less is more" game is Canabalt from Adam Atomic.

Wii Internet Browser Now Free
Yesterday Nintendo made the wise decision to make their web browser free to download. Long story short, it's a free download, so download it. You never know when you might need to see Beyoncé's "Put a Ring on It" video on YouTube in the middle of a Wii Fit workout.

For a review of Wii's browser and my tragic history with gaming-system surfing click through.

Be There, Love Them
We're big fans of the Austin Bat Cave, the West Lynn-based literacy nonprofit that offers tutoring and arts programs for kids. ABC's mission statement is to connect "a diverse population of young writers and learners with a vibrant community of adult volunteers" who are working professionals culled from the local arts and media scene.

Review: Wii Sports Resort
As a card-carrying member of the vaunted non-gaming gamer demo, I, like countless others of my ilk, embraced the original Wii Sports with open arms – well, invisible open arms, in keeping with my Mii’s floating extremities.

Austin's DadLabs Take Back Labor
The always entertaining dads from Austin's own DadLabs (Brad Powell, Clay Nichols, Troy Lanier and Owen Egerton) will make a special appearance at the Alamo Downtown to share some of their favorite clips from their daddy-centric Website, live demos, a bit of stand-up, and the fave of any special event: SWAG ($1k in Baby Bjorn gear).

Welcome to Austin, Soundcheck
It may have upset some of the self-appointed saviors of the local film community, but Austin Studios has a new tenant. This afternoon, city council approved a sublease agreement allowing Soundcheck Austin to move in to stage four.

This Week's Waste of Time
After weeks of free video games as art, I figure it's time to please the masses. Brain games are all the rage these days. The handheld Nintendo DS made a killing with its Brain Age series seemingly because people like to think they are younger than they are even if only in their heads.

Hoping to capitalize on that market are a slew of websites that claim to make you smarter through practice. Good luck with that. For the sake of argument, let's assume these websites can accurately gauge and improve your intelligence. There is a sick pleasure in finding your place in the stupidity continuum and, in turn, trying to claw your way out of the ditch of dumbness by repeatedly playing memory and reaction-time games.

Here's a great example of such a brain-testing game free and on the web:

There's an App for Whaa?!
So you've used your iPhone browser to find the nearest Chipotle, pulled up a map, and now you're driving along to the soothing sounds of your superphone directing you to your destination. But what about the line that could possibly await you at the restaurant, won't that ruin your day completely?

You bet it will.
