Worldview to Produce David Gordon Green's 'Joe'

Worldview Entertainment has had a busy year, what with producing William Friedkin's chicken-fried noir Killer Joe as well as Eli Roth's upcoming The Green Inferno, Atom Egoyan's Devil's Knot, and financing Ti West's The Sacrament.

Now comes word that Worldview has signed on to both finance and produce David Gordon Green's Joe, starring Nicolas Cage. Principal photography is scheduled to kick off this November in the Lone Star state, natch.

Green -- director of Pineapple Express, producer of Compliance, and helmer of the ~~highly worrisome~~ probably cool 2013 remake of Dario Argento's genre masterpiece Suspiria -- had this to say in Worldview's press release:

"When Larry Brown wrote the novel Joe, he instantly created an iconic character of contemporary Southern literature. It is with great excitement that I've been able to work with Nicolas Cage to design an absolute and unexpected performance piece that is woven from the darkness, beauty, humor and environment of this material."

September 7, 2012 (Toronto, Canada) -- Worldview Entertainment, a leading independent motion picture production and investment company, will finance and produce David Gordon Green’s (Pineapple Express) gritty, southern drama, Joe, starring Academy Award® winner Nicolas Cage. Joe is written by Gary Hawkins, based on the novel of the same title by Larry Brown. Lisa Muskat, David Gordon Green and Worldview CEO, Christopher Woodrow, will produce alongside Derrick Tseng. Worldview’s Molly Conners, Maria Cestone, Sarah Johnson Redlich and Hoyt David Morgan will executive produce alongside Brad Coolidge, Melissa Coolidge and Todd Labarowski for Dreambridge Films, which is making an investment in the film. Jody Hill and Danny McBride will also executive produce for Rough House.

Sadly, rumors that this would actually be a remake of John G. Avildson's 1970 asskicking mofo of a movie Joe, appear to be total B.S. (Probably a good thing considering the recent passing of indiefilm god Peter Boyle.)
