'Twitchy,' and on a Tear

By Kimberley Jones, August 10, 2011, 1:04pm, Picture in Picture

Did you know there was a mini movie factory in the ATX, pumping out super-low-budgeted pictures of all shapes and sizes with a scrappy, indie can-do spirit? And they've got a great name, too: Twitchy Dolphin Flix.

According to CEO Nathan Bybee, in three and a half years' time the tiny collective made up of friends and families has "completed three feature films, three more are in post-production, and we just finished filming our seventh in late July." Kinda makes you want to take a long hard look at your own creative output, huh?

In the last few months, Twitchy Dolphin Flix took home prizes at multiple festivals geared at emerging filmmakers. At Pasadena's Action on Film International Film Festival, the feature Snatch 'N' Grab won Best Comedy Script, while the short "Lilith's Daughters" was nominated for Best Guerilla Short; another feature, Look at Me Again, won Best Drama at the Bare Bones International Film Festival in Muskogee, Okla.

This weekend, Twitchy Dolphin's festival run nears closer to home at Houston's UnderDogs Film Fest. The filmmakers will be appearing on multiple panels, as well as screening music videos, shorts, and features. You can find out more at the Twitchy Dolphin online HQ here.
