'Slacker' @ 20 Screening and Party

You might have seen the scads of Austin's finest filmmakers hitting the pavement, re-creating scenes from 1991's Slacker in service of the homage feature that premieres in August. But for now, let's go back to the source.

On Wednesday, June 22, the Austin Film Society and the Alamo Drafthouse will host a party and screening to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Richard Linklater's indescribably influential slack-masterwork.

It all goes down at Austin Studios (1901 E. 51st.); doors open at 8pm and film unspools at 9pm. The event's free for AFS members – just one more reason to join if you haven't already – and for Austin Studios neighbors; everybody else ponies up $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Camp chairs and blankets encouraged; food and drink available for purchase.
