Happy Birthday, Mr. Strummer

Feral tribute to the Clash man

John Graham Mellor was born on Aug. 21, 1952, but Feral Cinema is celebrating the event a couple of days early with tonight's Joe Strummer: Feral Clash and Beloved Birthday Bash.

The night of tribute to the sadly deceased Strummer will include not one but two cinematic homages to the Clash frontman: Alex Cox's psychotic gangster-western Straight to Hell (featuring Strummer, Elvis Costello, half of the Pogues and a pre-(in)fam/e/y Courtney Love), plus the ultimate documentary about the head Mescalero by the ultimate chronicler of 1977 British Punk, Julien Temple’s Joe Strummer: The Future is Unwritten.

Throw in some Strummer-related giveaways, a set by DJ Gomi, plus Chronicle film expert and semi-pro Clash-o-phile Marc Savlov will be in attendance. Bring your own constructive nihilism.

Joe Strummer: Feral Clash and Beloved Birthday Bash, 8pm, Aug. 19, United States Art Authority, 2906 Fruth: Admission $5.
