A SXSW Easter Egg

By Melanie Haupt, March 17, 2010, 1:35pm, Picture in Picture

At Monday afternoon's screening of Helena From the Wedding at the Alamo Lamar, the audience was treated to an unexpected bonus: Danny Strauss' satirical short film, "Always a Bride."

The uncomfortably funny short inverts the trope of the woman pressuring her boyfriend to commit and instead portrays divorce as women's ultimate life goal; women coo over a newly naked ring finger and breathlessly inhale divorce cake much to the still-married outlier's chagrin. It's a nice piggyback onto the narrative portrayed in Helena, and might make viewers think seriously about the absurdity of the life landmarks women impose upon themselves.

Catch it at 4pm, Thursday, March 18, at the Alamo South Lamar or check out the film's website here.
