Local Trans Rapper Debuts Video for Hustle Anthem

Thrumming bass and neon lights cascade throughout the new music video from local rapper and “Trans Rap pioneer” Ms. Amazing Head for her motivational single “Chase That Bag.”

Few are more skilled when laying down lyrics on the benefits of working and werking than Ms. Amazing Head. “Chase That Bag” is her most outspoken single on the subject, with lines like “Went from sleeping outside/ Now I’m genie in a bottle” speaking to her journey to the top. The video, directed by Manuel Fraye, aka DJ Scam Likely, and edited by DDI Productions, features the artist dancing in various outfits, rocking sparkling body suits, shiny skirts, and a pair of sunglasses emblazoned with the all-caps word “AHEAD.” It’s a phrase that echoes throughout the RJ Maine-produced tune – staying ahead is how Ms. Amazing Head keeps her crown on and is her advice to those attempting similar success. “This video [for] ‘Chase the Bag’ symbolizes a lot,” she says. Visuals and music combine for a message urging those watching to “go for your dreams and goals in life [and] let no one distract you,” she says, adding, “People going to talk about you if you’re doing good or bad.”

A great deal has changed for Ms. Amazing Head since she was last interviewed in Qmmunity, when she reckoned with a queer scene that didn’t appreciate her music. Just this year she’s performed at multiple queer events, including House of Lepore’s Natchella Birthday Ball and Hermajestie the Hung’s Big Black Drag Show on Juneteenth; has hosted an LGBTQ open mic party at Cru Lounge; and is booked for the upcoming ATX Queer Music Fest happening this August. “It may seem to others that this happened overnight,” Ms. Amazing Head says of her current career, “but it’s been a journey. It takes a village. When I win, we all win.”
