Robbery at Q Toys

By Mikaila Rushing, February 27, 2018, 9:20am, Qmmunity

Early Saturday morning, Feb. 24, Austin's queer-owned adult store Q Toys was robbed – just weeks after celebrating its fifth anniversary on Burnet Road.

Robbers smashed in a window before stealing a "large amount of inventory" from the store. While no one was injured, Q Toys' owner Stephanie Boggs wrote in a newsletter sent out a few hours after the incident that replacing the stolen inventory would be costly.

Q Toys is asking supporters and patrons to consider donating to help the store quickly recover from the robbery. As Boggs wrote, “We are looking at some heavy price tags to get us back on track. Insurance deductibles, getting product back on the shelves – all add up.”

In the meantime, Q Toys is open for business and selling any and all inventory still stocking its shelves. Of course, if shoppers fancy a product lost in the robbery, the store is happy to order it – no shipping fee required.

As supporters know, Q Toys has, since its opening, been an avid ally to the queer community. Aside from being a safe and inviting space for queers to shop, the store has continued to support numerous local LGBTQ and HIV/AIDS organizations by donating profits and goods when called on. In the vein of sexual health, Q also hosts after-hours workshops designed to improve – and heat up – attendees' private lives.

To donate, supporters can visit the store's GoFundMe – Boggs is hoping to raise $2,500. She also notes that if more money is raised than needed to "offset our losses, we will donate the rest to [a] local nonprofit. We appreciate your support so much." You can also visit the store at 6800 Burnet Rd. for all your vibrating needs.
