Where the Girls Go/ATX: Off The Grid Edition

The best DL events to find the cutest GTQs this weekend in ATX

Oh, Austin, ya just can't get enough queer. And most weekends, you can fill those desires.

This is not one of those weekends. Well, not at first glance. There's no official dance party, pool party, or music showcase. But, luckily for us, all you ever have to do in ATX is dig a bit, and voila! We'll let you in on some of the nooks and crannies we plan to explore.

Friday: Dust off the old dance party for something a bit more avant-garde tonight, as the artsy, hipsters, and queermos take over Swan Dive. What is it? BUHU is releasing another piece of their 4-Track Cinemat. The disco-loving, dance-inspiring Whiite Walls opens.

Suggestion: $5 cover gets you a dance floor, good music, and trippy visuals. Bonus: If you want something to do earlier in the night, stop by Oilcan Harry's for Red Hot 23, a fundraiser event for Project Transitions.

Saturday: Queers descend on Cheer Up Charlie's tonight – yes, even more than normal, that's why they're calling it Queer Up Charlie's. What's that mean? A whole new kinda drag, and lots live music, including Gretchen's Disco Plague. Daniel Rugg Webb (that guy who fist bumped Obama and became a national super hero) will be performing, along with tons of other first-time drag performers.

Suggestion: Fist bump Daniel?

Sunday: It’s been proven – Sundays are just better when they end with Cinema East. The movies are fun, there’s free beer for the first couple of hours, but it’s the people watching that really sells this event. Seriously, everyone from your boss, and your best friend's roommates, to your future ex-girlfriend will be sitting on the French Legation Museum’s lawn Sunday night. Clearly, you should be sitting there too.

Suggestion: Bring snacks, bring cups – or bottles with screw caps – and bug spray.
