Some weekends are made for dancing, some for lounging, and some – like this one – are for grounding yourself in all things Do-It-Yourself. Between CLIT Fest – yes, you did read that correctly – and Queerbomb preparations, remind yourself why we still need to fight, and what it is we fight for. That is, aside from the glitter and awesome dance parties.
Friday: Combat Latent Inequality Together as CLIT Fest starts off their weekend long DIY punk festival. “United against sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, sex negativity, body shaming,” etc, these punx will be taking over Cheer Up Charlie’s all weekend long. Tonight catch BLXPLTN, Tom Grrrl, Your Heart Breaks, and Big Bill rockin' out and the mosh pit moshing. Suggestion: Leave any isms or ists you carry at the door, cuz that’s about the only thing that’s not welcome here.
Saturday: CLIT Fest today is an all-day event. Literally. You can start at noon and go non-stop til 2am. Be it free workshops (Race, Gender and Privilege, Queer Organizing, and Reproductive Justice) or music to make ya shake ya ass and let the rest follow. Bands start at 7pm – highlight, Mom Jeans is playing! And then The lez behind Lesbian Wedding, Beth Schindler is gonna get the dance party started.
Suggestion: Buy the full weekend pass – it’ll save you money and it all goes to Safe Place.
Sunday: Eat an early brunch this morning, and then come volunteer some time and talent to Queerbomb. What my editor calls "Austin's largest annual nighttime procession," this queer pride event needs all of our help to happen. So grab a friend and some overalls, and get ready to paint on the glitter, at this arts and crafts party.
Suggestion: Bring yer art supplies - scissors, glue guns, wheat paste – all contributions help!
Still need more? Check out the Gay Place calendar, and check back with me here next week, QTs.
