Music Mo'nday: SXSW Edition
Austin, London, Paris, Munich, everybody talk about gay music.
By Rob Cohen, 1:08PM, Mon. Mar. 12, 2012
Let's have a quickie, and blast through some hot queer tunes and SXSW stuff.
Oblivion - Grimes
Here we have another over-hyped, cute, new female artist to drool over now. Claire Boucher's electronic Tinkerbell pop is catchy enough for pop heads and just warped enough for pot heads. She just performed at Mohawk and new music intern Abby Johnston wrote a great review of the show. Check her out at the Pitchfork showcase Thursday night at 11:30pm or for free at the Google Lot Friday, 3:30pm.
Disparate Youth - Santigold
The second single from her upcoming album, Master of My Make Believe, out May 1, is a chill out gem which sounds like No Doubt, M.I.A., and Sleigh Bells getting it on. Check Santi out this week at the MTV Woodies and the Fader Fort Thursday, 6:35pm.
Nuclear Seasons - Charli XCX
This track is a couple months old, but in all the glut of female pop acts, this cheesy ass song has stuck with me the most. It's got to be that cartoon robot voice hook. Charli performs before Grimes at the official Pitchfork showcase, this Thursday night, 9:30pm, or check her out for free, 3:45pm at Red Eyed Fly.
Perfect World - Gossip
Beth Ditto and krewe are back saucy, glossy, and poppy, with a new album, A Joyful Noise, out May 22. You can check out Gossip this week at the Google Lot Thursday at 6:30pm for free or on Maggie May's rooftop Thursday at 1am for the official Chop Shop Showcase.
