Tuesday News Gay: Dec. 13

By Daniel Villareal, December 13, 2011, 3:30pm, Qmmunity

In this week's very political version of our weekly LGBT news roundup, Rick Perry starts a big gay fight, Obama and Clinton try to make the world safer for LGBTs, an 8-year-old matches wits with Michele Bachmann, and an amazing marriage equality ad from Australia changes the conversation from tax benefits to L-U-V.

RICK PERRY'S ANTI-GAY AD STARTS A BIG, GAY GOP CATFIGHT: Last week, our very own Texas governor Rick Perry made a bald-faced anti-gay ad lamenting 'mos in the military and the death of Christmas. The ad has been deservingly mocked all up in this innerwebs.

But when the top brass of conservative gay group GOProud expressed disgust at Perry's gay strategist (Tony Fabrizio… Febreezey-yo!), GOProud's sleazy board member Andrew Breitbart resigned, saying that GOProud effectively outed Fabrizio, something GOProud denies.

OBAMA AND CLINTON TELL THE WORLD TO START LOVIN' THEIR QUEERS: Last week both Obama issued a proclamation and Clinton made a U.N. speech urging countries around the world to provide legal, moral, financial and security support for all LGBT citizens — a pretty huge deal!

Africa, which has varying laws criminalizing LGBT existence, had mixed reactions. One HuffPo blogger thinks Hil's speech could have even made things worse for the gays, but everyone pretty much disagrees with him.

8-YEAR-OLD EATS MICHELE BACHMANN'S MIND: An 8-year-old rocked GOP Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann's world last week when he told the anti-gay supporter of ex-gay therapy, "My mommy doesn't need fixing."

While funny man Patton Oswalt was delighted and mocked the whole GOP anti-gay thing, LGBT activist Dan Savage expressed discomfort about gay parents inserting their children into national politics — something that sounds odd coming from a guy whose book about his son is currently a New York musical.

AUSTRALIAN MARRIAGE AD MELTS HEARTS EVERYWHERE: If you have not already, watch this mind-blowing marriage equality ad from Australia called "It's Time" — it'll melt your ice-princess heart. The ad is so good in fact, that American Facebookers are trying to get the ad televised — of course, it's just one of the many brilliant marriage equality ads from around the world.

Until next week, darlings.
