Vigil for Norma and Maria Hurtado at OutYouth

Come Together

There will be a vigil Thursday, April 21 for Norma and Maria Hurtado, the daughter and mother who were murdered in Austin in what can only be considered a hate crime against LGBT identified people.

The Statesman reported the incident Tuesday. I don't have the words to describe the horror of this event at the moment, but you all should know about it (all of us no matter how we identify because we all want relationships in our lives, and we all need to stand up against such blatant acts of hate), go to the Vigil Thursday, April 21, 8-9pm at Out Youth, 909 East 49 1/2 Street, and get/stay involved in making sure justice is done and that we continue to support the right for one human being to love another human being without judgment or fear for our lives.

At this moment, it is important for us to come together to grieve. As fellow GP blogger Andy Campbell put it so eloquently on Facebook, "This is incredibly important. When our community members are murdered at the hands of intolerance, fear and hate, it's our job to recognize it, confront it, and work to heal ourselves first and then those who most despise us."
