Equity? Or Strategy?

"Family & Traditional Values Centers" at state universities?

So, an amendment to House Bill 1, the general appropriations bill, would call for state agencies of higher education to support centers for Family and Traditional Values in an amount equitable to that spent on gender and sexuality centers.

Penned by Rep. Wayne Christian, R-Center, the amendment passed 110-24, and has been reported on by Julie Sunday at RH Reality Check (which links directly to the amendment) and Pandagon.

Bilerico is all over it, too.

I'd be boggled, but this seems par for the course.

I wanted to have a good laugh at both the right wing's ideas of the apparent goings-on at Gender and Sexuality centers and Amanda Marcotte's brilliant take on counter-programming at these new centers, but frankly folks, I can't find it funny anymore.

As Marcotte so smartly puts it, "Gender and sexuality centers at universities are there to promote what really should be non-controversial ideas: that women/gay/transgender people are full human beings, that human sexuality is a natural part of life, that rape and domestic violence are bad things, and that people have a right to be healthy regardless of gender or sexual status. Counter-programming then, I have to assume, is pro-rape, pro-domestic violence and bullying, anti-health, and anti-woman."

Yeah, that's not funny at all.
