News AggreGAYte for the Week of Dec. 20

By Rob Cohen, December 20, 2010, 8:16am, Qmmunity

Just in case you haven't heard, the Senate voted to repeal DADT early Saturday. We here at Gay Place are ecstatic, but already looking forward to the next steps.

On Saturday, the Senate has voted 63-33 to advance a bill to repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell. I was cynical about the chance that the stand-alone bill, which was created by senators Joseph Lieberman, and Susan Collins (R-Maine), would even make its way to floor before this session was over, so this is a great surprise. The bill is now on it's way to Obamz desk, and he is reportedly "very thrilled."

It is really ridiculous all the time, energy, and money wasted on the enforcement and research of DADT, so it's a relief that it is finally over, but let's be for real, this is a small bone. In the holiday spirit we will gladly accept, but we need to make 2011 the year in which the LGBT are truly equal citizens. Oh, and get over it McCain, you sore loser! As usual, more at the Advocate.

No other news compares to this, so we will leave it at that. Be sure to read Andy's take on this victory. Happy holidays from Gay Place!
