Sing it, Nakia!

There's more to do - here are some GP suggestions for the next few days of SXSOOOOOOOOOOGAY.

Tuesday (Today!):

6PM, OutCast (Live, queer radio show on our local community station) @ KOOP 91.7FM. Our own Kate X is the dyke sidekick of the OC's Heath and Stephen. Today features Nakia, Fausto Fernós, and Bob Mould. And if you don't have one of those old timey broadcast radios handy, you can always live stream it.

10PM, Trash Humpers @ The Alamo Ritz. Harmony Korine is best known as the screenwriter for Larry Clark's KIDS, but as a director he is so much more. An auteur in the truest sense, this is the filthiest bit of cinema he has yet made, and it is radically, riotously Queer (with a capital "Q"). It's caustic and difficult - somewhere between John Waters and Guy Maddin.

12AM, The Shondes @ Beauty Bar. Queer Jews have never been so adorable, or sonically gifted! They're messhugeneh!

Wednesday:

8:15PM, Nakia, Jo's Coffee (1300 South Congress). This soul brotha isn't one to miss! See Margaret Moser's writeup in this week's Chronicle.

9PM, Butch County, Nuno's Upstairs (422 East 6th). Come support the Austin Butch Rawkers as they take back 6th street from the straight indie rockers.

Thursday:

12PM, Sandra Bernhard, Cafe Mundi (1704 East 5th Street). The great lady of song and comedy headlines a packed bill. (and did we mention you don't have to have a wristband/pass/badge to get in?)

5:45PM, Little Stolen Moments, Home Slice Pizza (1415 South Congress Avenue). I'll have a slice of sausage and some shameless dancing and uke-playing, please. Thank you.

8PM, Bent Compass Party, Rain (217 W. Fourth). Avi Wisnia, Tribella, Benko, Julie Nolan & Telling Stories, and Alli Reece will entertain.

9PM, Lisa Marshall Band, TC's Lounge, (1413 Webberville Rd). This one's a bit of a hike out of downtown, but completely worth it. I heard this soul sister belt out Aretha Franklin at a karaoke party and my life was changed forever.
