Goodbye Mystique

By Andy Campbell, February 16, 2010, 11:15am, Qmmunity

First, apologies all around for not posting a Drag Race recap last week - forgive, forgive!

But this week was a good'un. It was all country, all the time! After playing a rousing game of "Chicken or WHAT?!?!" in which the ladies had to guess what they were eating, the queens broke into two teams…

…to produce short sketch-like ads for a Crisco-like product.

The company was good this week, as always: Ricky Roo, Steven C-dM, Lady C, Jay Byrd, and others! So let's get to gettin'!

Watch Gay Video & Lesbian Movies

Steven: I feel bad for Mystique. She was sweet, but so clearly out of her league. I think she was set up. It seems like the producers just put her in there for the fat jokes and the fat drama – if they wanted to cast a fat girl, they could have found someone better, god knows there are lots of amazing fat drag queens.

Lady C: Another great week at the Race and with Tayna Tucker to boot! For me this week was great because not only did we get to say goodbye to Mystique, but the issue of “Mall Country” is now out in the open. I’m still liking Pandora Boxx, and Jujubee. Morgan McMichaels in grandmother drag costume… what was that? Tyra and Jessica are growing in favor with me. Can’t wait for next week with Neicey Nash.

Jay Byrd: Ah, the country episode. The Disco Extra Greasy Shortening commercials reminded me of the short films of Tom Rubnitz from the mid 1980s, featuring performances by drag queens the likes of The Lady Bunny, Lahoma Van Zandt, and RuPaul when she still sported forearm hair. A Google search for “Tom Rubnitz Pickle Surprise” might just get you there

Andy: Let's just talk about the moment Mystique walks out, when she uses her patented jump-split. Cheers erupted in the room, although I was beginning to think that Mystique was a one-trick pony. Tyra truly turned it out and I was not necessarily a fan before. Also: I have not thought about Kathy Najimy since she was in Hocus Pocus. She was filled with hard-ass hilarity. She was the baddest queen on the show this week. Hands down.
