Meet n' Greet!

By Ricky Hill, January 21, 2010, 4:33pm, Qmmunity

Oh hai, homos! Being that this is my first official entry on the illustrious Gay Place bloggity blog, I figure an introduction is in order.

My name is Ricky, aka Ricky Roo, Tricky, Lil' Roo, Dee Dee Davinbrook, King Crab, Crank Master, Grumblecakes. You might recognize me from one of last year's fabulous Dragaoke nights at Rusty Spurs. Or maybe I came up as one of your matches on OKCupid. Or maybe you've seen me inappropriately grinding on someone you know at some house party.

You may have also seen me around the University of Texas campus, where I am a second year Master's student in the Media Studies program in the Radio-Television-Film department. I study the different ways queer youth in rural areas are using the interwebz, which is why I am ridiculously excited to be blogging for Gay Place. I mean, really. I have successfully legitimized my Internet addiction AND my obsession with queer culture.

What's that called? Oh, yeah: living the dream.

In my blogging for Gay Place, I will be bringing you a weekly feature titled "Grabby n'Stabby." It's something that my sister, Dana, and I used to do back on MySpace (remember MySpace?), and that she has kept up with over on her blog, Dana Does Design. Each week I will give you a short list of my current likes (Grabs!) and current dislikes (Stabs!) It's a nice way to keep my negativity in check, as well as open dialogue about what is and isn't awesome in queerness, pop culture, food, technology, activism, and whatever other realm happens to be taking up space in my brain that week.

Because let's face it, I'm all over the map – and isn't that how every good queer should be?
