Fly the GLBT-Friendly Skies

By Kate X Messer, July 3, 2007, 12:40am, Qmmunity

In May 2007, Texas-based Southwest Air launched a GLBT Web page on their site. So far (it's only a month or so old) it's a small niche with some fairly chock-a-block lists of gay-friendly destinations and a couple of diverse pics of same sex (and sometimes even interracial) couples pointing at stuff in a window (probably to buy). There are even a few nods to community with links to partnerships with some gay chambers of commerce and pride organizations.

Pandering? Nah, Southwest is down. Hey in their travel tips section, they recommend that you:
"Store an 'in case of emergency' number on your cell phone. Upon fainting when you see Jennifer Beals up close, you may accidentally knock yourself out."
And
"Leave a trail. … And we’re not talking about bread crumbs. Your mother taught you better than to leave a mess on the floor."

OK, some gay guy totally wrote that.

Airlines out of the closet? An interesting trend. How long until this is commonplace? American Airlines has a gay page, too. OK, and Delta sponsored a bunch of Pride events. But where's their page, beeeeyotches?
