In this week's episode of The Austin Chronicle Show on KOOP 91.7, staff writer Austin Sanders discusses the latest developments in the Mauris DeSilva case.
Last week, two APD officers were indicted for murder in the shooting death of DeSilva, who at the time of his death was holding a knife and having a mental health episode. The case is part of a larger ongoing conversation in Austin about how police officers are trained in deescalation tactics and mental health crisis response.
In the second half of the program, Chad Swiatecki joins me to talk about his deep dive into emo-rock nostalgia and the rise of emo nights at Austin clubs. Due to copyright issues, we're not able to include the music clips we played on the show, but if you want to listen along, here's the track list and where they should appear in the episode:
12:45: "Welcome to the Black Parade," My Chemical Romance
20:18: "I Write Sins Not Tragedies," Panic! at the Disco
25:12: "Perfect Lines," The Promise Ring
