It's Real and It's Spectacular: Seinfeld Stars To Raise Funds for Texas Dems

By Mary Tuma, October 21, 2020, 10:40am, Newsdesk

Queue the unmistakable slap bass, the stars of the iconic Nineties show about nothing plan to fundraise about … something, right here in Texas.

Amid the state’s record-breaking early voter turnout ahead of the Nov. 3 election, Seinfeld’s Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Elaine Benes), Jason Alexander (George Costanza), and co-creator Larry David (a prett-ay prett-ay good addition) will host a virtual fundraiser for the Texas Democratic Party this Friday night in hopes of turning Texas blue. Texas leads the country in early voting numbers, with more than four million ballots cast in the 2020 election so far. Hosted by Seth Meyers, the “Fundraiser About Something” starts at 7pm (with a VIP reception at 6:30pm) and promises other special guests. Any TDP donation amount snags you a ticket to the online-only event.

“Texas is a battleground state, period. We knew that we had to reunite for something special and the movement on the ground for Texas Democrats up and down the ballot is the perfect opportunity to do just that,” said the trio. “Texans are getting out to vote in droves and showing the world that Texas has never been a red state, it’s been a non-voting state. We couldn’t be more thrilled to host a ‘fundraiser about something’ for a terrific organization like the Texas Democratic Party, who are building the movement necessary to turn Texas blue in 14 days.”

In their first time to reunite since David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm meta-reunion in 2009, the cast members are expected to dish behind-the-scenes stories and talk favorite Seinfeld episodes. The celebs have been using their star power to get out the vote, with David encouraging others to vote safely and help save the U.S. Postal Service, and Louis-Dreyfus participating in a Veep cast reunion to benefit the Wisconsin Democratic Party earlier this month. She recently compared Trump’s obnoxious dancing to Elaine’s notoriously embarrassing dance moves and suggested he borrowed the selfish buffoonery and inept stylings of Selina Meyer too, writing on Twitter, “First he stole all of Veep. Now he’s stealing from Seinfeld.”

Cast reunion fundraisers to boost turnout are an emerging political (Democratic) trend, with Happy Days, Parks and Recreation, The Avengers, and The Princess Bride hosting or planning to host similar events this election cycle.

“The Texas Democratic Party could not be more thrilled or excited to have members from the cast of Seinfeld reunite to turn Texas blue,” said TDP Chair Gilberto Hinojosa. “The eyes of the world are on us. We’re building the movement necessary to be victorious in 14 days. Texas is the biggest battleground state in the country and if we do the work, keep the faith, and turn out every voter, we will win this state.”

With a year that has us chanting “Serenity Now!” more times than we’d like and wishing we could just “yadda yadda” over most of it, a fundraiser promising a few laughs is more than welcome, so giddyup!
