AISD School Closures, Racism at APD, and More on This Week's The Austin Chronicle Show
Also: What to watch in movie theatres Thanksgiving Day
By Kimberley Jones, 3:30PM, Fri. Nov. 22, 2019
“The map you have is a map of what 21st century racism looks like.”
That was the devastating assessment of the so-called “School Changes” plan for school closures, as delivered by Austin Independent School District Equity Officer Stephanie Hawley at Monday night’s school board meeting. The plan passed anyway. Austin Chronicle staff writer Austin Sanders joined me this week to discuss the vote and its fallout. We also discussed the latest developments in the investigation into racist conduct at the Austin Police Department.
In the second half of the program, Screens editor Richard Whittaker swung by to share his picks for what watch in movie theatres on Thanksgiving Day. (Incidentally, as I type this, I’m enjoying a delicious cake baked in celebration of Richard publishing his 6,000th story this week. Congratulations, Richard! Now take a nap!)
