CodeNEXT Public Hearings Start Saturday

By Sarah Marloff, April 24, 2018, 12:45pm, Newsdesk

The first of two public hearings on the CodeNEXT staff policy recommendation is this Saturday at the Dove Springs Recreation Center (5801 Ainez).

The city’s Planning and Zoning & Platting commissioners are conducting both that and the follow-up hearing, set for May 1 at the Palmer Events Center, to document residents’ feedback on the latest and final(ish) draft of the proposed land use rewrite. Austinites are invited to speak at one of the two hearings, and commissioners have repeatedly stressed that they hope to hear from all residents – not just the ones who’ve been vocal about the rewrite since the process began.

For those hoping to speak here’s what you need to know, via Andrew Rivera, staff liaison for the city’s two land use commissions:

Saturday’s hearing will run from 10:30am to 4:30pm at Dove Springs Rec. Center;

Speaker sign-in opens at 9:30am;

*Rivera added Thursday morning, residents will be asked to form a single file line before they're queued into six lines of 20 to sign-in;

Speakers will be called in the order they’ve signed in (each sheet should equal about an hour of speakers);

Speakers will have three minutes, and will not be able to donate time to another;

Those still waiting their turn when time expires will be rolled over to Tuesday’s speaker list;

Tuesday’s hearing will be held downtown at the Palmer Events Center at 4pm (sign up will open 30 minutes prior).
