The Association of Alternative Newsmedia announced the finalists for its 2014 AAN Awards today, including the Austin Chronicle among the nominees.
For the second year in a row, the Chronicle was recognized for its women's health coverage in the Public Service category for papers with circulations 50,000 and over. Managing Editor Kimberley Jones, Senior News Editor Michael King, News Managing Editor Amy Smith, Creative Director Jason Stout, and former staff writer Jordan Smith were nominated for their efforts on "The War on Reproductive Rights."
Austinite Jen Sorensen, whose syndicated strip Slowpoke Comics appears in the Chronicle, was also nominated in the Cartoon category.
Winners will be announced in July at the annual AAN Convention in Nashville. A full list of nominees is listed on the AAN website.
